Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The National Insurance Co. Ltd (NICL) launched an Embellishment Programme under its second CSR pillar activity and in line with its Eco Strategy, this morning, at the Social Welfare Centre of Long Mountain.<\/p>\n

The NIC is thus sponsoring the embellishment of the Social Welfare Centre and the football ground of Long Mountain. The objective is to create a cleaner, greener and safer environment for the region.<\/p>\n

The Members of Parliament (MP), Mrs Subhasnee Luchmun Roy, and Mrs Marie Joanne Sabrina Tour, NIC\u2019s Group Chairman, Mr Vikash Peerun, and NIC\u2019s Group COO, Dr Rishi Sookdawoor, and other personalities were present.<\/p>\n

The event was organised by the Social Welfare Division, the NICL, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, and the village council of Long Mountain. A tree planting ceremony was held on that occasion and plants were offered to the region\u2019s inhabitants.<\/p>\n

In a statement, MP Mrs Luchmun Roy highlighted that the initiative is in line with the vision of the Prime Minister to fight the scourge of drugs and other social ills and to encourage the youth in keeping the environment clean instead of falling prey to social ills.<\/p>\n

This initiative has been organised in different regions, she pointed out. She further expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their collaboration and believing in the vision of Government.<\/p>\n

For her part, MP Mrs Tour emphasised the importance for citizens to be responsible for the environment. Mauritius will remain clean if each Mauritian becomes eco-aware and ensures the cleanliness of his home, she stated.<\/p>\n

The youth
\nNIC\u2019s Group Chairman, Mr Peerun, spoke about the objective of the activity which is to promote a cleaner environment and is in line with the NIC\u2019s CSR programme that comprises several pillars with one of them focusing on the environment. The NIC is a Governmental entity and will extend its support in endorsing projects in other sectors such as health and education, he indicated.<\/p>\n
