{"id":57626,"date":"2025-07-25T21:12:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T21:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\/all-news\/intel-nears-completion-of-15-workforce-cut"},"modified":"2025-07-25T21:32:43","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T21:32:43","slug":"intel-nears-completion-of-15-workforce-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mauritius\/all-news\/intel-nears-completion-of-15-workforce-cut","title":{"rendered":"Intel Nears Completion of 15% Workforce Cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>US chip giant Intel announced on Thursday that it has nearly completed its plan to cut 15% of its workforce amid a company turnaround.<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs, revealed in Intel\u2019s second quarter earnings report, were among the first major moves by new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took charge in March.<\/p>\n<p>In a Thursday memo, Tan said Intel aims to finish the year with 75,000 core employees, excluding subsidiaries, down from 99,500 last year, through layoffs and attrition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are making hard but necessary decisions to streamline the organization, drive greater efficiency and increase accountability at every level of the company,\u201d Tan said.<\/p>\n<p>The company will cancel planned projects in Germany and Poland and slow construction on its Ohio chip factory in the US \u201cto ensure spending is aligned with market demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Intel will also relocate assembly and testing from Costa Rica to larger facilities in Vietnam and Malaysia, while maintaining key engineering and corporate teams in Costa Rica.<\/p>\n<p>Intel, once a tech leader, has struggled after missing key shifts in mobile and artificial intelligence, leading to leadership changes and takeover rumors.
