Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>Russian President Vladimir Putin declared Thursday that the world is entering a \u201cpolycentric era\u201d where no single power can dictate rules, warning Europe against militarization, expressing conditional support for US President Donald Trump\u2019s Gaza proposals and placing responsibility for the continuation of the Ukraine war on Western states.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiscussions at the Valdai forum provide an opportunity to objectively and comprehensively assess the situation around the world,\u201d he said, adding that multipolarity is \u201ca qualitatively new phenomenon\u201d that creates both opportunities and risks.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one is ready to play by rules set by one person somewhere far away,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n

– Multipolar world and global governance<\/p>\n

Putin argued that a multipolar world is more democratic, since it allows \u201ca large number of political and economic players\u201d to influence outcomes.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps never before on the global stage have there been so many countries influencing or seeking to influence the most important regional and global processes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Putin insisted that solutions in this environment must rest on broad consensus.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny solutions are possible only on the basis of agreements that satisfy all interested parties or the overwhelming majority. Otherwise, there will be no viable solution at all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that Western-led institutions had \u201clost their meaning\u201d by straying from their original mandates and turning into \u201cplatforms for political lectures.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Russian leader praised organizations such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, saying they reflect genuine consensus and balance among members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey aren\u2019t against anyone, they\u2019re for themselves,\u201d he said, contrasting this with what he described as the \u201chegemonic\u201d tendencies of the West.<\/p>\n

Europe, NATO and security<\/b><\/p>\n

Putin devoted significant attention to Europe, portraying it as a continent whose elites manufacture threats from Russia to cover up domestic crises.<\/p>\n

He said European leaders are \u201cinflating the image of an enemy\u201d while their own citizens face rising debts, migration challenges and \u201ca growing crisis of social security systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMost people in Europe cannot comprehend why they are so afraid of Russia that, to confront it, they must tighten their belts ever tighter and forget about their own interests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He dismissed claims of Russian plans to attack NATO as \u201cnonsense\u201d and \u201cimpossible to believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warning of military buildups, Putin said: \u201cWe\u2019re closely monitoring the growing militarization of Europe. Russia\u2019s response will not be long in coming. The response to these threats, to put it mildly, will be very convincing.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stressed that Russia had \u201cnever initiated a military confrontation,\u201d but history shows that \u201cweakness is unacceptable, because it creates the illusion that any issue with us can be resolved by force.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ukraine conflict<\/b><\/p>\n

Turning to the war in Ukraine, Putin called it \u201ca Ukrainian tragedy…painful for Ukrainians and Russians, for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

He repeated Moscow\u2019s argument that Western countries had long used Ukraine as a tool \u201cto expand their zone of control\u201d and said Kyiv had been turned into \u201cexpendable material.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the conflict could have been avoided if earlier US administrations had taken a different approach and if NATO had not advanced toward Russia\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Ukraine had ultimately preserved its independence, its true sovereignty, this could have been avoided,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Putin said that Russia\u2019s forces hold the strategic initiative on the battlefield, citing advances in several areas.<\/p>\n

He also presented detailed casualty and desertion figures for Ukraine, alleging that Kyiv\u2019s mobilization is faltering.<\/p>\n

Independent verification is difficult for these battlefield claims due to the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n

He urged Kyiv to negotiate.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be better for the Kyiv leadership to think about how to reach an agreement. We have discussed this many times and proposed doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n

He insisted that Russia has enough manpower and that its losses are \u201cmany times less\u201d than those of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Putin also welcomed mediation efforts by countries such as China, India, Saudi Arabia and Tu\u0308rkiye but accused Europe of deliberately escalating the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, it hasn\u2019t been possible to stop the fighting yet, but the responsibility for this lies not with the majority, but with the minority, primarily Europe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Relations with the US<\/b><\/p>\n

On ties with Washington, Putin adopted a pragmatic tone, saying the current US administration communicates directly.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is always better to clearly understand what the other person wants than to try to guess through vague hints,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that Russia reserves the right to pursue its own national interests, one of which is restoring \u201cfull-fledged relations with the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo matter what the differences, if we treat each other with respect, then bargaining\u2014even the most tough and persistent\u2014will ultimately lead to consensus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Gaza and the Middle East<\/b><\/p>\n

Putin also addressed the conflict in Gaza, describing it as \u201ca horrific event in modern history.\u201d He said even UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had called Gaza \u201cthe largest children\u2019s cemetery in the world,\u201d calling the humanitarian toll \u201ctragic.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Trump\u2019s initiatives, Putin said they \u201cmay bring some light at the end of the tunnel.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said handing control of Gaza to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas would be the \u201cpreferable option\u201d and called Trump\u2019s idea of freeing all hostages in Gaza alongside releasing Palestinians from Israeli prisons \u201cworthy of support.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stressed that any plan must be accepted by Palestinians themselves, including Hamas, and by the wider Islamic world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is absolutely essential to understand how Palestine itself feels about this,\u201d he said, adding that Israel\u2019s stance is also decisive.<\/p>\n

Putin acknowledged skepticism over former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair being proposed to lead an interim administration in Gaza but said Blair \u201ccould play a positive role\u201d if channeled toward peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf all the positive things I mentioned happen, then it will certainly be a breakthrough. And the breakthrough could be quite positive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that a Palestinian state is the cornerstone of any long-term settlement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe creation of a Palestinian state is a key element of the overall settlement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
