Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, proceeded, this afternoon, with the inauguration of the new Choisy Bridge and the realigned B15 Road, at Poste de Flacq. The project started in June 2020 and was completed in June 2021.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo; and other eminent personalities were also present at the inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Minister Hurreeram highlighted that the road realignment and new bridge project, to the tune of some Rs 78.9 million, was completed in time and aims at easing movement of traffic in the region.<\/p>\n

He underscored that the Road Development Authority decided to reconstruct the bridge and at the same time realign the road since the existing culvert was not in good condition and was often over flooded during heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Minister Hurreeram observed that the new bridge has an increased hydraulic capacity so as to prevent flooding in the vicinity, as well as a return period of 100 years.<\/p>\n

He informed that savings made following the project\u2019s completion enabled the authorities to enhance the existing road infrastructure in the vicinity. The Minister also appealed to road users to drive cautiously and to pedestrians to use the two-metre wide pathways on both sides of the road for their safety.<\/p>\n

The project includes: construction of approximately 500 metres of new road as realignment; felling of trees and river diversion; construction of a new reinforced concrete bridge; construction of road side structures such as footpaths, drains and masonry retaining structures; relocation of existing services; civil works for Mauritius Telecom and Central Water Authority services through the new road alignment; street lighting works; and road furniture works such as road marking, road signs, cat\u2019s eyes, guard rails, and hard rails.<\/p>\n
