Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The 8th Political Dialogue between Mauritius and the European Union (EU) was launched, this afternoon, at Le Labourdonnais Hotel, Caudan, in Port-Louis.<\/p>\n

Various Ministers including the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo and the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo-Shah, participated in the Political Dialogue.<\/p>\n

In addition, various ambassadors including the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Mauritius, Mrs Florence Causs\u00e9-Tissier, the Ambassador of the EU to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Vincent Degert, and non-resident Ambassadors to Mauritius including the Belgium Ambassador, Mr Peter Van Acker, and the Austrian Ambassador, Dr Johann Brieger, were present on the occasion.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Minister Gobin underlined that the Political Dialogue will focus on key topics including human rights, the delisting of Mauritius from the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force, the Post COVID-19 situation, and other cross-cutting subjects concerning all Ministries.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the holding of the Political Dialogue which is an annual event and the presence of participants including non-resident Ambassadors, demonstrates the strong partnership that exists between the two parties.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Minister asserted that Mauritius is a leading example for its ongoing cooperation with the EU. As for the EU Ambassador, he recalled Mauritius and EU have been key partners in various spheres for forty years now.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that various topics including economic cooperation and collaboration avenues in regional maritime security and fisheries, and addressing plastic pollution, amongst others, will be discussed.<\/p>\n

Climate change which is a key concern for both Mauritius and the EU, as well as how to help Mauritius meet the objective to increase production of renewable energy up to 60%, will also be discussed, he said.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Mr Degert reaffirmed EU\u2019s commitment to support Mauritius to attain its Sustainable Development Goals and vision. He also lauded the progress made by Mauritius in strengthening the laws for child protection, adoption matters and gender equality.<\/p>\n
