Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong> <\/span>To ease peak-hour traffic congestion and enhance the safety of students at St Marie College in Palma, the Ministry of Housing and Lands has approved the opening of an access road on state land located behind the college.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the Minister of Housing and Lands, Mr Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohamed, accompanied by the Chief Government Whip, Mrs Marie Genevi\u00e8ve St\u00e9phanie Anquetil, as well as representatives of the Ministry and the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit, carried out a site visit, yesterday in Palma, to assess the proposed project and discuss implementation modalities.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Minister Mohamed underlined that the safety and security of students remain a top Government priority. He noted that the current access road to the college is narrow and inadequate to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow, especially on school days.<\/p>\n

The new access road, he indicated, will be seven metres wide and include pavements, as well as a 25- to 30-metre parking bay for cars and buses. He expressed confidence that, with the collaboration of all stakeholders, the project will be completed and operational in the near future.<\/p>\n

For her part, Mrs Anquetil welcomed the Ministry\u2019s swift intervention and the swift measures taken to address the daily challenges faced by parents and students using the existing road.<\/p>\n

Traffic congestion has been a persistent issue in many urban areas, including Palma, where schools are located. The narrow access roads often lead to safety concerns for students, especially during peak hours. The government’s initiative to construct a new access road reflects a growing awareness of the need for infrastructure improvements to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and facilitate better traffic management in the region. This project is part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and improve the quality of life for residents.<\/p>\n
