Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, unveiled, today, during an official ceremony, a stele in memory of late Woman Police Constable (WPC) Dimple Raghoo, at Bo\u2019Valon Mall, in Beau Vallon. The ceremony comprised laying of wreaths, a parade, one minute of silence and sounding of the \u201cLast Post\u201d by the buglers.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Mahen Seeruttun; the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint; the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Hurreeram; the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Anil Kumar Dip; family members of late WPC Raghoo, and other personalities were present on the occasion.<\/p>\n

In a statement following the official ceremony, Prime Minister Jugnauth recalled that, on 24 November 2020, WPC Raghoo, who was attached to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit of the Mauritius Police Force, lost her life during an operation to nab miscreants involved in drug trafficking in Beau Vallon.<\/p>\n

The Head of Government highlighted that throughout her career, WPC Raghoo displayed dedication in carrying out her duty, and bravery in the fight against the drug mafias. He also commended the devotion that late WPC Raghoo showed towards the Mauritius Police Force.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister underscored Government\u2019s commitment to fight against illegal drug trafficking in the Republic of Mauritius and regretted that the country lost such a dedicated officer.<\/p>\n

He seized the opportunity to pay tribute to all officers who were currently carrying out their duty with honesty and sincerity. In addition, Mr Jugnauth dwelt on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country and reminded that each citizen must act responsibly and observe all sanitary precautions at all times. He encouraged those who were eligible to be inoculated with a booster dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine to do so at the earliest.<\/p>\n
