Africa-Press – Mauritius. <\/strong><\/span>An online Question and Answer event was organised, today, by the Open University of Mauritius (OU), following the launch of three pathway programmes, which would be offered in collaboration with the University Canada West (UCW).<\/p>\n

The three programmes available are: MBA Foundation; Certificate in Commerce; and Certificate in Business Communication. During his address, the Director-General of the OU, Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, gave an overview of the UCW pathway programmes and highlighted that today\u2019s live session was organised so as to provide answers to future students.<\/p>\n

He observed that OU forged a partnership with UCW so as to offer pathway programmes which would enable students to start any of the above-mentioned courses in Mauritius on a full-time basis with the option of pursuing their studies in Canada.<\/p>\n

Dr Sukon underlined that, since there were requests from several students who could not proceed to Canada due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these three pathway programmes were selected following consultation with relevant stakeholders and according to demand.<\/p>\n

He indicated that OU and UCW would offer the internationally valid and recognised pathway programmes as from the first week of December 2021. Furthermore, he underscored that courses would be held at OU and students would have access to an online library as well as to a Learning Management System.<\/p>\n

He also stated that students would also have the opportunity to pursue their studies locally if they did not wish to travel to Canada. \u201cOn the other hand, those who complete any of these three programmes will not have to take the English proficiency test to study in Canada,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

As for the Manager of UCW pathway programmes in Mauritius, Dr Aansa Bedacee Varjangbhay, she gave an overview of the advantages of starting the programmes in Mauritius, before eventually completing them at UCW.<\/p>\n

\u2018One of the main advantages\u2019, she stressed, \u2018is that students can save a significant amount of money with regard to tuition fees and the costs of living in Canada.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Director, Academic Affairs Division, Dr Ushad A. Subadar, gave a presentation on the different aspects of the proposed pathway programmes.<\/p>\n

These are: the reasons to choose one of the programmes; the general entry requirements; the learning and teaching methods; and the assessment methods.<\/p>\n
