Africa-Press – Mozambique. The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) took part in a beach clean-up action at Costa do Sol, Saturday, April 26.
This initiative, organised by the Repensar Environmental Education Cooperative as part of International Earth Day, celebrated on April 22, included the participation of EUMAM MOZ military personnel, who joined the cause, demonstrating their commitment to Mozambique.
This beach clean-up action at Costa do Sol involved more than 200 participants and made it possible to remove six bags full of broken glass — among other waste — from the beach, leaving that coastal area cleaner and more pleasant.
EUMAM MOZ’s participation in this type of activity is part of a set of actions aimed at environmental protection and the promotion of good social practices, through collaboration and civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) with Mozambican non-governmental organisations and other entities.
EUMAM MOZ continues to operate in full compliance with International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law and the Women, Peace and Security agenda. The Mission is currently led by Commodore César Pires Correia of the Portuguese Navy and comprises more than 80 military and civilian personnel from 12 nationalities.
EUMAM MOZ was established to support Mozambique in various capacities, including environmental initiatives. The beach clean-up at Costa do Sol aligns with global efforts to celebrate Earth Day, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in environmental protection. Such initiatives foster collaboration between military and civilian entities, promoting social responsibility and environmental stewardship in Mozambique. The mission’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian principles further enhances its role in local communities.
