Africa-Press – Mozambique. Next Sunday, dancer Idio Chichava will perform at the Makhall’s Arte Recreational Space in Mapuito’s Polana Caniço neighbourhood. From 5:00 p.m. onwards, a maximum of 30 people will be able to see a performance of ‘SmogForever’ especially adapted for alternative spaces.
Chichava’s performance, which has already been presented on tour in alternative spaces in France, where the dancer lives and works, will last about 20 minutes.
‘SmogForever’ addresses the theme of global warming and collective and individual responsibility for raising awareness of environmental action.
“This piece is usually accompanied by Frank Micheletti, who is a sound creator and artistic director of the French company Kubilai Khan, with whom I have worked for 16 years. Unfortunately, he won’t be present, but we do have his soundtrack to work with,” Chichava says.
The presentation at Makhall’s Arte Recreation Space is intended to make art available to all kinds of people, and to draw public used to more conventional spaces onto the periphery. “This justifies, for me too, a practical training of new audiences for dance and theatre,” the dancer explains.
The artist adds that his performance aims to show that contemporary art can be presented and appreciated in popular neighbourhoods. “Art is not just made for the bourgeoisie. This way, we can create a variety of places for performative presentations,” he maintains.
‘SmogForever’ will be the first performance presented in Mozambique since films by Idio Chichava and Ivan Barros – ‘Last Scream’ and ‘It’s Getting Late’ – were awarded honourable mentions at the Grand Bivouac Documentary Festival in France, in October of this year.
