Handed ultimatum by Nampula governor: Teachers in Muecate who have not shown up in school so far this year

Africa-Press – Mozambique. There are teachers in the district of Muecate, Nampula province, who are disowning their duties and he situation could result in expulsions.

This Monday, February 14, the governor of Nampula, Manuel Rodrigues, went to monitor the beginning of classes in Muecate, only to find that most teachers had not yet resumed activities this school year.

“So the teacher stays at home, spends his life drinking… The teacher has already become a taxi driver, doesn’t go to the classroom anymore. The result is poor performance, and the student harmed. Now, do we have to tolerate undisciplined persons? No! I’m warning you: change your behaviour! In the space of a week! I want to hear that Muecate has changed,” he said.

The director of Education, Youth and Technology services in Muecate confirmed that absenteeism was a problem, even among local managers, a situation he associated with the fact that some of them live in the city of Nampula.

The 2022 school year officially opened on January 31.
