Africa-Press – Mozambique. A group of individuals travelling in two unidentified vehicles shot at the wall and gates of the Special Maximum Security Penitentiary (‘BO’) at around 2:00 a.m. today.
Information obtained on site indicates that one of the vehicles approached the entrance of the jail and fired shots at the main access gate and in the direction of the electricity transforming station (PT) which supplies the jail.
Shot-marks are plainly visible on the prison wall and gate.
The second vehicle approached the same location, and its occupants threw a smoke grenade, probably with the aim of preventing prison officers from identifying the perpetrators.
According to what has been learned, the reaction of the prison guards thwarted the attempted sabotage.
Security measures were reinforced, with the number of agents outside as well as inside the jail increased.
