New regulation for energy access in off-grid areas in Mozambique: Webinar this Thursday

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The city of Maputo will on Thursday at 1o am CAT host a webinar for the presentation and discussion of the impact of regulations on energy access in off-grid areas in the country, and in particular, in places where mini-grids and solar systems are used.

The conference is an initiative of the Lusophone Association of Renewable Energies (ALER) and the Mozambican Association of Renewable Energies (AMER), with the support of GET.invest Mozambique, the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) and the Energy Fund (FUNAE).

The aim of the meeting is to promote debate between the public and private sectors with a view to publicising the existing opportunities in the sector and clarifying possible issues raised by the regulation.

“Aware of the importance of the publication of the regulation for energy access in off-grid areas in Mozambique on the 10th of December, ALER, in partnership with AMER and with the support of GET.invest Mozambique, will organise a webinar on the 24th of February for the presentation and discussion of the impacts of this long-awaited document in particular in the mini-grid and solar home systems market segments,” reads an announcement on GET Invest webpage..

In addition to presenting the instrument and a summary of all projects and support programs that will benefit from the regulatory framework, the event will facilitate discussion of the opportunities made available to the private sector.

ALER and AMER have congratulated the Mozambican authorities responsible for implementing the regulation on access to off-grid energy, reiterating that they are available to explore any more technical questions that may be raised, with their associates if necessary.

Proof of this is that, in November 2021, the Lusophone Association of Renewable Energy and the Mozambican Association of Renewable Energy of Mozambique held a virtual conference on renewable energy in Mozambique.

Under the motto “Renewables for self-consumption in Mozambique”, the conference discussed the potential for self-consumption in Mozambique’s energy market, with emphasis on the commercial and industrial sector and the characterization of market demand.

GET.invest is a European programme that mobilises investment in renewable energy in developing countries. It is supported by the European Union, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands and Austria. Funded by the European Union and Germany, the program has been operating in Mozambique since 2019.
