Africa-PressMozambique. The Water Regulatory Authority has ruled out any possibility that the water delivered within the Greater Maputo metropolitan region is contaminated.

The statement comes in response to a study which reports that drinking water in Maputo has high faecal contamination, resistant to antibiotics.

The document allegedly also points to water contamination in municipal distribution systems, and in some wells.

The President of the Board of Directors of the Water Regulatory Authority reassured Greater Maputo residents that there is no danger in the consumption of the water supplied there.

“The water distributed by Águas da Maputo [in] the area covered by this study is treated at the Umbelúzi water treatment plant. […] We ensure that the water [authority] in the region of Maputo carries out regular examinations, and collects regular samples, because it is in the company’s work plan. They collect them on a daily basis,” she said.

The President of the Board of Directors of the Regulatory Authority promised an inquiry into the veracity of the study.
