Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs has challenged notary services departments and registries to restore the data of citizens displaced by the war in Cabo Delgado, consolidating information and creating a unitary identification number.
Speaking on Friday (19 June) during the closing of the XIII National Meeting of Registries and Notaries in Nampula, Minister Helena Kida said the occasion should be seen as an important milestone for public registries, and urged notary officials to embrace humility.
Minister Kida said legislation needed to be improved, to ensure greater security and the protection of information on rights and assets subject to registration.
In the minister’s opinion, registration and notary departments should, in coordination with the information and communication technology departments, improve security systems and revenue collection.
Helena Kida said that the challenge remained one of accelerating the pace and reach annual targets by 2024.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Kida said, conditions encompassing all existing registries existed to guide the registries and notary sectors in birth registration, in addition to expanding registration in maternity hospitals throughout the country.
