Africa-Press – Mozambique. Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane has revealed that the government allocates to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) annually 0.1% of total State revenues to respond to damages resulting from natural disasters in the country.
Adriano Maleiane gave out the figure in the main town of Monapo this Monday, as he was meeting, in a transition centre set up in Topelane Primary and Complete School, some of the more-than 2,000 people affected by Tropical Cyclone Gombe.
The prime minister has been on a working visit to Nampula province since Monday.
Maleiane said that an assessment of the damage caused by cyclone, including deaths and destruction of public and private infrastructure and individual residences, was underway.
Maleiane said that, following the passage of the cyclone, the government had identified as priorities the restoration of electricity, water and access roads and the creation of conditions for the affected families to return to their homes and continue with their normal life.
Some victims in the transition centre said that they were taken by surprise by the arrival of the cyclone.
In addition to visiting families affected by the floods, the prime minister also visited the health centre in Monapo, to establish response levels during the emergency.
