Africa-Press – Mozambique. The memorandum of understanding between the Mozambican government and the Employment Bureau of Africa (TEBA) on the deferred payment of miners’ wages will only be signed in May, in Maputo.

TEBA is the labour recruitment agency for the South African mining industry.

Mozambique’s Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Talapa, said that the MoU should have been signed in Johannesburg this Saturday, but this did not happen due to the unavailability of the designated TEBA representative.

Minister Talapa says that the agreement aims to make the payment of miners’ wages more flexible, reducing the bureaucratic process to a maximum of seven days.

The minister also said that a meeting with South African agencies linked to compensation for occupational diseases is scheduled for Maputo.

Talapa says that Mozambique wants to speed up the compensation payment process.

There are 1,034 eligible beneficiaries in Mozambique who have been waiting for the payment of compensation since 2017.
