Note of clarification: There will be no layoffs at Tmcel

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Following the recent meeting between Tmcel and the Planning and Budget Commission of the Assembly of the Republic, information was published according to which Tmcel would lay off 1000 workers in 2022, giving rise to various interpretations, hence the relevance of providing the following clarifications.

1. A process of resizing the workforce, to which workers have adhered voluntarily, has in fact been underway since 2018.

2. When Tmcel was created, its workforce, coming from the extinct companies TDM and mCel, totalled 2086 employees.

3. In the first phase of this resizing process, Tmcel expects, shortly, to have around 1700 workers at its service.

4. After the end of this first phase, Tmcel foresees the start of the second phase of resizing the workforce, with negotiations being ongoing with the Company’s Committee.

5. This resizing process will be entirely voluntary from the workers’ point of view, through early retirement, compensation and the attribution of incentives.

6. It is important to mention that the entire process has been conducted taking into account the principles of humanism and voluntary adherence to early retirements.
