INAE and AT seize 438 bottles of counterfeit cooking oil

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The National Inspectorate for Economic Activities (INAE) and the Mozambican Tax Authority (AT) last Friday identified twelve brands of counterfeit cooking oil that are being marketed in the country.

INAE spokesperson Tomás Timba said in Maputo this Tuesday that action was being taken to withdraw the product from the shelves, because not only is it smuggled, it is not fortified either.

Timba explained that the counterfeit branded packaging was identified within the scope of Operation Healthy Cooking Oil, which aims to promote the consumption of fortified products in the country.

According to the INAE spokesman, 438 bottles of counterfeit cooking oil (859 litres) were seized during the operation.

The INAE urged consumers to pay more attention when buying products, which must be enriched with vitamins and minerals.

Spokesman for the Tax Authority of Mozambique, Fernando Tinga, said that work was underway to ascertain the origin of the product.
