Mozambique: Theft at INGD leads to the arrest of six people – Noticias

Africa-PressMozambique. Six individuals, including workers and traders, were detained in Maputo city on Saturday, accused of stealing goods from the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction Management (INGD).

The arrest of the six suspects, who were allegedly diverting goods destined for aid recipients in the country, came thanks to tip-offs and investigation by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).

According to the police, employees removed the goods from the institution’s warehouse to a home, and from there distributed them for sale in stores in Polana-Caniço and Maxaquene.

One of the detainees said that he was forced into theft by routine delays in paying his wages in order to obtain money to buy food.

The owner of the house where the goods were received said that she entered the scheme for financial gain.
