Africa-Press – Mozambique. Crossing into South Africa via the Ponta D’Ouro border post in Maputo province was suspended on Saturday and Sunday for the second consecutive weekend, due to the absence of health personnel to validate Covid-19 tests on the South African side.
The situation forced the National Migration Service (SENAMI) to close the Ponta D’Ouro crossing point.
SENAMI Maputo provincial directorate spokesman Juca Bata explained that the single South African health technician providing the service throughout the week takes the weekend off, and that, no-one being provided to replace him, the only option is to close the crossing.
Talks to ensure that the situation does not arise again are underway, he added.
SENAMI spokesman Celestino Matsinhe urged travellers to use the Ressano Garcia post to cross to South Africa.
