Africa-Press – Mozambique. At least 1,165 citizens lost their jobs in the first quarter of this year in the Mozambican capital, Maputo.

The data was announced on Monday by the Secretary of State for Maputo city, Vicente Joaquim, at the opening session of the Maputo Forum for Social Consultation and Coordination (FOCCOS), which is taking place under the slogan “In Favor of Social Dialogue, Labor Peace and Economic Development of Maputo City.”

“These numbers worry us a lot. In this case, we reinforce the idea that this Forum must solve the concrete problems of our population, such as access to jobs”, said Joaquim.

According to Joaquim, “we are all called to contribute to the creation of companies and their sustainability, through knowledge, imagination and capacity of innovation facing the challenges of each moment.”

The Forum, he said, must analyze whether or not the actions and interventions have or have not had the desired effect for the satisfaction of government policies.

“This forum must express our commitment to the promotion of social dialogue as a mechanism to seek consensus and affirm smart partnerships that serve as a basis for the resolution of vital issues of our city, especially the problem of the shortage of jobs and consolidation of existing ones”, he said.
