Africa-Press – Mozambique. A plant is being set up in Changara district, Tete province, for the partial processing and export of 50 tons of manganese per month to India, Thailand and China, in a private project valued at more than one million US dollars.
The assembling of the infrastructure is in the equipment installation phase, said Carlos Matos, one of the firm’s partners.
Matos also revealed that, after this first plant had come into operation, but still during the course of the current year, the company would further invest close to US$4 million on copper processing capacity.
“It is an asset for our province, which has artisanal and small-scale miners who produce in limited numbers. This initiative will increase capacity and support this group,” he said.
He explained that the support would consist of offering jobs to artisanal miners, who would gain a regular source of income, as well as benefiting from improved extraction. In addition, the community will enjoy improved access routes.
Matos explained that, as the area where the project is situated does not have electricity from the national grid, the company will invest in renewable energy sources, supported by generators.
He also said that the project will employ around 100 Mozambicans, a number that could increase by the end of the current year as copper processing begins.
