Health authorities in Mozambique on Sunday announced 933 new cases of Covid-19 and 20 deaths which, despite having been reported only yesterday, had been registered since Friday. Two of these deaths were declared on Friday (July 9), six were declared on Saturday (July 10) and 12 were declared on Sunday (July 11), reads a bulletin from the Ministry of Health.

The fatalities were all Mozambicans, aged between 38 and 76, according to the Ministry of Health’s daily pandemic bulletin.

The new cases – 269 Mozambicans, one foreigner and 663 individuals of unspecified nationality – represent about a third of the tests performed in the previous 24 hours (2,876 in total), a period in which 718 recoveries were reported.

From Saturday to Sunday, 74 new admissions and 42 hospital discharges were registered, raising the total number of hospitalised patients to 363, 70% of them in the city of Maputo.

The country has been facing a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic since mid-June.

Mozambique had, by Sunday, registered a cumulative total of 982 deaths associated with Covid-19, among 88,868 cases, 82% of whom have officially recovered. Therefore, the number of active cases stood at 14.265.
