Africa-Press – Mozambique. Twitter has announced that it will soon delete 1.5 billion inactive accounts. Chief executive officer Elon Musk announced Friday that the targeted accounts are those which have been left dormant for years.
“Twitter will soon start freeing the namespace of 1.5 billion accounts,” Musk said in a tweet.
“These are obvious account deletions with no tweets and no log in for years.” Musk became the owner and CEO of Twitter on October 27, after acquiring the social media company for $44 billion.
The latest announcement is part of the new changes he has introduced since he acquired it. Recently, he announced that tweets will start showing view count just like the videos.
“Twitter is much more alive than people think,” he said.
The CEO has come up with a new update to the micro-blogging platform after the second instalment of the “Twitter Files” revealed how the company build blacklists and actively limited the visibility of certain accounts.
“Twitter is working on a software update that will show your true account status, so you know clearly if you have been shadow banned, the reason why and how to appeal,” he said.
