Palma population asks for reopening of Namoto border post

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Residents of Palma district in Cabo Delgado province are asking the government to reopen the Namoto border post between Mozambique and Tanzania.

The post was closed due to security issues, but traders argue that the alternative Negomano border post in Mueda district is too far from Palma and increases the cost of goods.

Traders are also requesting the rehabilitation of the road between the Palma district headquarters and Quionga administrative post.

Palma district administrator João Buchili says that the reopening of the Namoto border post is dependent on the guidance of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), while work on the road in question is already underway.
