Africa-Press – Mozambique. Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias is ,this Wednesday (25 January), visiting Mozambique (Maputo). This is the first-ever visit of a Greek Foreign Minister to the country.
During his stay in Maputo, Nikos Dendias is scheduled to meet with the Foreign Minister of Mozambique, Verónica Macamo. Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations is scheduled to be signed.
Afterwards, the Greek Foreign Minister is expected to be received by Prime Minister Adriano Afonso Maleiane. This will be followed by meetings with the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, His Eminence Ioannis, Metropolitan of Zambia and locum tenens of the Holy Diocese of Mozambique [under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa], members of the Greek Community of Maputo, as well as the Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, Oswaldo Petersburg.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece will also meet with the Commander of the European Union Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique), as well as with Greeks serving in this EU Mission.
South Africa visit
On Monday, Dendias left Greece for South Africa, where he held a one-on-one meeting with his counterpart, Naledi Pandor, in Pretoria on Tuesday. Afterwards, there was a meeting for talks between the delegations of the two sides, followed by joint statements to the press.
Later, the Greek foreign minister went to Johannesburg, where he visited the Greek school SAHETI in the presence of the Metropolitan of Johannesburg and Pretoria Damaskinos.
Afterwards, Dendias met with members of the Federation of the Greek Communities in South Africa and then visit edThe Nelson Mandela Institute.
This was the first visit by a Greek Foreign Minister to South Africa in 25 years.
The meetings in South Africa and Mozambique are expected to focus on further strengthening the cooperation between Greece and the specific countries in a wide range of sectors, among them the economy, investments and culture.
Furthermore, discussions are expected to cover Greece’s cooperation with these countries within international organizations so as to address common challenges, on the basis of adherence to International Law, including the International Law of the Sea.
This is Dendias’ seventh visit trip to Sub-Saharan Africa, which demonstrates the importance that the Greek government attaches to the strengthening of the country’s relations with this region.
