Africa-PressMozambique. A grouper weighing 320 kilograms has been caught in southern Mozambique

The fishermen, from Mucocuene Fishing Centre in Inhassoro district, Inhambane province, say their catch is unusual for that part of the country.

The animal was sold for 8,000 meticais (around US$125 at current exchange rates), that is, for 25 meticais per kilo (US$0.39). Buyers rightfully considered this a “good-luck price”.

The giant grouper, going by the scientific name Epinephelus, can grow to huge size, with a maximum recorded length of 270 centimetres and a maximum published weight of 400 kilograms (880 lb). Specimens are more commonly around 180 centimetres in length.
