Hulene dump collapse: Number of families resettled in Possulane rises to 73

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The number of families, victims of the Hulene dump collapse in Maputo city in February 2018, who have received new homes and are now living in the Possulane neighbourhood in Marracuene district, Maputo province, rose to 73 this Tuesday when 20 more houses were handed over by the Ministry of Land and Environment (MTA).

The garbage dump collapse claimed the lives of 16 people, resulting in the government adopting measures to prevent, mitigate and respond to the public calamity by removing families from the risk area, later demolishing 260 houses built in inappropriate areas and susceptible to further garbage landslides.

269 families were at the time removed to safety in temporary locations.
