Africa-Press – Mozambique. The National Roads Administration (ANE) continues to suffer losses as a result of the theft and vandalism of road signs on roads and bridges in Maputo province.

The long-running scenario is one of persons unknown removing ANE traffic signs, usually at night. The phenomenon has recently expanded to the thieves removing protective barriers from bridges and drifts.

There are suspicions that the stolen material is being used to make pots for homemade drinks. The ANE delegate in Maputo province, Rubina Nurmomed, claims that the institution has so far suffered losses estimated at around five million meticais from this line of activity. Nurmomed calls for communities to collaborate in the denunciation of those responsible for the robberies.
