Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Association of Health Professionals of Mozambique yesterday announced the suspension of the strike which started on Thursday, in the light of negotiations taking place with the government on members’ demands, the chairperson of the association has announced.
“We reached a consensus not to harm the population, and suspended the strike for 15 days while we continue to dialogue,” Anselmo Muchave told a press conference.
Discussions involve working conditions and the levels of remuneration for professionals.
The association complains about the lack of resources in health units, including surgical gloves and serum, in addition to contesting aspects of the Single Salary Table (TSU).
At the end of last year, another organisation, the Medical Association of Mozambique (AMM), staged a 19-day strike in protest against the TSU, reaching agreement with the government on some points in its list of demands.
