Africa-Press – Mozambique. Maida’, the first Mozambican TV ‘soap’, premiered in Angola last week.

The content reaches Angolan viewers at 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, through Kwenda Magic (DStv Angola channel 502), and is intended only for Angolan territory.

‘Maida’ captured the attention of children, young people and adults in Mozambique and is currently broadcast in six countries (Niger, Ivory Coast, Haiti, Madagascar and Congo) in a French dubbed version.

‘Maida’ is the first Mozambican telenovela to be shown on prime time TV, with new episodes airing uninterruptedly on Monday to Friday since January 17, 2022.

The production quality has aroused interest in other markets, with particular emphasis on participation in international awards such as the International Emmy Awards in the US and Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in Nigeria.

“This telenovela represents the recognition that we in Mozambique can produce and make fiction based on local resources on a regular basis and to international standards,” explained João Ribeiro, director of Canal Maningue Magic.

“We hope that the Angolan public will welcome us with open arms, and that this moment will serve to promote the content and national actors in the diaspora, reinforcing the exchange of content between the two countries.”

Maida portrays the life of a naïve young woman from a rural background who leaves her family and studies to go to the big city to work as a maid in the house of the rich and complex Sitoe family.

Produced by Panavideo, with an all Mozambican cast. Maida is an adaptation of a successful format already produced and shown in Africa, and in Mozambique has now hit its 400th episode.
