Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado province said this Monday (19-06) that conditions broadly exist for the reopening of the Namoto, Chucamba Bota and Namatil border posts in the northern part of the province, currently closed due to historic terrorist activity, Radio Mozambique reports.
António Supeia made the statement after visiting the border posts, describing conditions in surrounding communities as “healthy”.
Supeia however cautioned that specific tasks must be carried out at some border posts before any possible reopening.
“All the border crossings need to be reorganized, and it is necessary to create reserve zones, so that when we want to introduce some state infrastructure, we do not have to go looking for space,” he said.
The closure of the Namoto, Chucamba Bota and Namatil border posts between Mozambique and Tanzania, as well as reducing trade, negatively affected the family ties of citizens who have relatives in the neighbouring country, and vice versa.
