Renamo in Nampula denounces illegalities during vote counting

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Renamo political party in Nampula this morning called a press conference to comment on the voting process that took place yesterday in 65 municipalities across the country.

According to Renamo, Frelimo attempted to change the results of the polls in the city of Nampula.

“Despite the fraud carried out by Frelimo, we won in eight municipalities,” said Abiba Aba, Renamo provincial delegate in Nampula, citing some of the alleged crimes. “There were several ballots found with a delegate. Celso Correia was in the sports pavilion with police officers at the tables, intimidating the members of the table. He wanted to defraud the will of the citizens. Journalists were expelled and the doors closed so that no one could enter. At Escola 12 de Outubro, MMVs were forced to leave the premises by STAE delegates.”

The press conference also presented fraudulent ballot papers were that were allegedly attempted to be inserted into the voting boxes.

Renamo says that the process that took place in the city of Nampula and in the other seven municipalities in the province was not a vote but “a war”.

“We want to appeal to Frelimo to recognize the results. The city of Nampula will not accept Celso Correia. Accept that you lost and return to Maputo where you shouldn’t have come from. If your objective is to lead Renamo to war, we don’t want it. But we are not afraid of war,” Abiba Aba said, issuing a direct challenge to the Frelimo party campaign director.

Renamo also indicated that, from the data it had collected, it was winning with 49% of the votes to Frelimo’s 40%.
