Africa-Press – Mozambique. Businessman Salim Laher, who owns a textile shop in Maputo and is the son of a Mozambican businessman linked to the accommodation sector, yesterday narrowly escaped an attempted kidnapping, on Avenida 24 de Julho, in the city of Maputo.
Witnesses say that the attempt occurred around 7pm when a group armed with firearms intercepted the victim on the central divider of the avenue.
The victim’s resistance, the shouts of people nearby who were calling “police, police”, would have been decisive for the “failure”. As their attempt was frustrated and while practically on the run, the kidnappers fired a shot at the victim. Sources cited by Integrity say that Salim Laher was immediately taken to hospital.
