Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique imported the equivalent of one million euros a day in vehcles in 2023, with growth expected compared to previous years, according to central bank data compiled by Lusa. this Wednesday.
According to Bank of Mozambique statistics covering the first three quarters of 2023, vehicle imports rose to US$314.2 million (€286 million) in nine months.
In the entire year of 2020 (four quarters) these imports reached US$253.8 million (€231.8 million). The following year (2021), they totalled US$345.5 million (€315.6 million), and in 2022 the total was US$369.3 million (€337.3 million).
In the first quarter of 2023, car imports by Mozambique totalled US$101.7 million (€92.9 million), in the following quarter US$112.9 million (€103.1 million) and in the third quarter (July to September), US$99.6 million (€90.9 million).
Of the total value of US$1,522.6 million (€1,390 million) in consumer goods imported by Mozambique from January to September 2023, motor vehicles led with a weight of more than 20%.
In the three quarters of 2023, total imports by Mozambique – including intermediate goods, capital goods and others – amounted to US$6,570 million (€6,002 million). In the whole of 2022 they totalled US$13,337.3 million (€12,184 million) and in the previous year US$7,961.9 million (€7,273 million).
