Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Government of the Province of Maputo says it is investigating the reasons for the recent rise in price of basic necessities, after the stability seen during the festive season.
A multi-sectoral team, including technicians from the Trade and Industry sector, is already on the ground to investigate the increase in prices in the national market.
Products covered include sugar, rice, onions, potatoes, corn flour, beans, cooking oil and fish. The real causes of the situation may soon be known.
Even so, the aforementioned products are in sufficient quantities to meet demand, provincial Director of Industry and Commerce Joel Nhassengo said.
Nhassengo warned traders caught operating outside the normal rules that there would be no mercy.
