Press statement from Jean Boustani

.I welcome the fact that Honourable Judge Efigénio José Baptista is permitting me to testify in the ongoing trial in Mozambique.

In fact, Honourable Judge Efigénio José Baptista through his ruling on August 17th 2021, had previously refused request that I give evidence . I would have happily testified then if he had allowed it.

The Lebanese authorities have informed me that the Mozambican authorities (through the PGR) have alleged accusations against me after my unanimous acquittal in a United States Federal Court in New York of all charges against me (including alleged violations of Mozambican laws).,

Which makes me more convinced about the lack of credibility and the political motives of the entire PGR actions since 2015.

Additionally, and contrary to the words of Honourable Judge Efigénio José Baptista, I have never stated during my trial in the United States of America that I have corrupted Mozambicans or Mozambican authorities.

I would be happy to provide the Honourable Judge with the entire transcripts of my trial in the United States of America, in case he was misled by any third party, so he can assume his supposedly unbiased independent position throughout the trial in Mozambique.

I wish to correct for PGR’s information that I am a Lebanese citizen and do not hold a French nationality.

I also request the PGR to answer the official demand of the Lebanese authorities in presenting my alleged accusations details, instead of remaining silent till date.

Finally, I am willing and ready to appear in front of Honourable Judge Efigênio José Baptista as soon as possible via videoconferencing as any bureaucratic process as proposed by the PGR might consume lengthy time and procedures and I believe my testimony (and that of His Excellency President Filipe Nyusi) is crucial to the sake of the truth and open & fair justice.
