Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Central Anti-Corruption Office (GCCC) has opened another 31 criminal cases relating to suspected harmful management of funds intended to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The cases have been opened within the scope of irregularities referenced in the 2020 financial year report produced by the Ministry of Economy and Finance following an audit by the Administrative Tribunal and which focused on the institutions that benefited from the money allocated for the prevention and mitigation of the effects of the pandemic.
The audit detected a ‘hole’ of close to 60 million meticais in the Ministry of Education and Human Development accounts, with six employees already accused of being linked to hiring processes and associated payments.
At this time, ongoing investigations are looking into the management of funds in other central-level state institutions including the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Social Action, the National Institute of Management and Reduction of Disaster Risk and the National Fund for Sustainable Development.
