Africa-Press – Mozambique. The rehabilitation and expansion of Xai-Xai Provincial Hospital in Gaza is over 90% complete, and expected to be finished within a month.
President Filipe Nyusi, who visited the site yesterday, said he had received assurances from the contractors that the work was progressing well.
However, he acknowledged that the project was complicated by the need to keep the hospital operational while addressing the erosion threatening the infrastructure.
The work focuses on the outpatient areas, morgue, maternity ward, operating rooms, administrative blocks, wards, radiology facilities and laboratories. Additionally, a physiotherapy block is planned, and the number of beds will be increased from 243 to 320.
The project, undertaken by OGA Construções, will cost approximately 543 million meticais. In response to those asking whether the funds could have been better used to build several district hospitals instead, the president replied that the decision to carry out this intervention was designed to provide better health services to the province’s population.
