Mozambique: 15 terrorists surrender to defence forces in Macomia – Carta

Africa-PressMozambique. Fifteen members of the terrorist group active in Cabo Delgado deserted their ranks a few days ago and surrendered to the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) in Macomia district. According to ‘Carta de Moçambqiue’ sources, the deserters were from one of the terrorist bases in Quiterajo administrative post in Macomia district.

The sources told ‘Carta’ that the deserters had said that it was the group’s main base, and where the leaders of the movement were hidden. The deserters also said that the scene among the ranks of the insurgents was chaotic, with many members of the group deserting.

With the arrival of foreign troops, the insurgents have lost ground, having already been evicted from the districts of Palma and Mocímboa da Praia, and with efforts to clear them form Muidumbe, Macomia, Nangade and Quissanga now ongoing.

‘Carta’ sources said that the five decapitated bodies found in Namaluku village in Quissanga were victims of the terrorists, and killed last Friday.

That attack reportedly took place 24 hours after General Commander of the PRM, Bernardino Rafael, said that Quissanga district was free of terrorists and that the population could return.
