Africa-PressMozambique. According to the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), sixty-five commercial establishments were closed down between the 13th and the 27th of September for failure to comply with Covid-19 prevention measures.

Food and beverage establishments, event halls, bottle stores and even construction material outlets featured among the violators of the presidential decree.

INAE spokesperson Tomás Timba also reported the seizure of 88 gambling machines (‘Xindonde’) for operation in inappropriate locations.

The INAE spokesman pointed out that the relaxation of some Covid-19 prevention measures should not be taken as signalling the end of the pandemic, remarking that continued disrespect for those measures still in force could undermine celebration of the coming festive season.

Timba reiterated that social events, despite being authorised, must scrupulously respect the capacity limits announced by President Nyusi within the scope of the State of Public Calamity decree.
