Africa-Press – Mozambique. A 19-year-old boy is seriously injured after being hit in the head by a bullet. The victim was admitted to Tete Provincial Hospital but is reportedly out of danger.

Matters escalated when a group of protesters, wielding posters saying “People in Power” tried to march down 25 de June Avenue in Tete city, but were stopped by police.

To repel the protesters, police fired tear gas and several shots ,one of which reportedly hit a 19-year-old boy in the head.

The protesters became enraged and began to erect barricades, burning tires and throwing stones at the police.

Tete Provincial Hospital confirms that the victim was hit by a bullet, but says that the patient’s condition is now stable.

In the wake of the demonstrations, two vehicles belonging to a mobile telephone company parked on Avenida da Liberdade were vandalized and burned out.
