AfricaPress-mozambique: Nine border posts in the country will start charging light vehicles with foreign registration entering Mozambique the relevant road taxes.
The measure, approved by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday (8 June) will allocate the revenue to the maintenance of the national road system.
Vehicles crossing the border at Mandimba, in Niassa province; Milange, in Zambezia; Zóbuè, Cuchamano, Cassacatiza and Calómuè, in Tete; and Machipanda, in Manica will be charged US$10.00.
The Namaacha and Goba border posts in Maputo province will charge light vehicles US$3.00 on entry.
Council of Ministers spokesman Filimão Suaze remarked that Mozambique was at a disadvantage because it did not charge any fee at border posts, unlike countries which charged Mozambican light vehicles fees. The measure would therefore implement reciprocity in the collection of fees for light vehicles.
