Africa-Press – Mozambique. Normalisation of living conditions in families’ areas of origin has allowed the closure of 33 of the 67 transit centres opened to accommodate those affected by Tropical Storm Jude in Nampula province.
The 67 transit centres had been opened in nine districts seriously affected by the storm, housing a total of 5,250 families.
The Provincial Delegate of INGD in Nampula, Anacleta Botao, said that families leaving the transit centres received kits consisting of food, cleaning and hygiene products and some materials to repair their homes.
Anacleta Botão further highlighted the INGD’s current focus on providing food assistance to those families still living in transit centres.
She also told Radio Mozambique that Nampula province had been allocated an amphibious vehicle to facilitate the delivery of food to families living in the districts of Ilha de Moçambique and Angoche. The vehicle is capable of driving on muddy ground and in areas with a lot of water.
More than 71,000 people, 99 health units and more than 1,300 classrooms in Nampula were affected by Tropical Storm Jude.
