Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government launched on Wednesday the project to set up an Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) platform, aimed at modernizing government procurement, making it more transparent, efficient and traceable.
“The government reaffirms its commitment to modernizing public administration and strengthening transparency and efficiency in the management of public resources,” said Finance Minister Carla Louveira, who launched the initiative.
Minister Louveira considered it a challenging step for the country, which was demonstrating its non-negotiable commitment to digital transformation, efficiency and development in Mozambique.
Present at the launch ceremony in Maputo, the Minister for Communications and Digital Transformation, Américo Muchanga, said that this was a mechanism that reinforces the strategic importance of digital transformation in boosting Mozambique’s socio-economic growth and development and improving the provision of services to citizens.
The President of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, said that the transition to a digital model was not just a technological modernization, but a revolution in the way the state reports to the private sector, promoting transparency, efficiency and competitiveness.
“The implementation of the GEPRES Project (Management of Public Resources for the Provision of Services) is a historic opportunity for Mozambique to take a leap forward in terms of efficiency and electronic governance, with a view to attracting greater investment,” he said.
The e-GP system will make it possible to carry out all the phases of the public procurement cycle in a digital and integrated way, from planning, launching tenders, submitting bids, awarding contracts, concluding contracts, to recording execution and payment.
The platform is designed to ensure greater participation by the private sector, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, and to reduce the bureaucratic barriers that have historically restricted access to public contracts.
