Africa-Press – Mozambique. As part of the “One student, one computer” program, Licungo University in Quelimane has delivered 40 laptops to students who had applied for them two years ago. Initially, 412 computers were planned, but of the 140 students who applied, only 57 met requirements.
During the ceremony, the Student Association expressed its gratitude to the government and partners for the initiative, appealing to the beneficiaries to use the computers productively and so dignify the university.
The association also asked the government for more such initiatives, with the aim of promoting digital transformation in teaching and learning.
In his speech, the rector of Licungo University, Boaventura Aleixo, encouraged students to use the equipment not only for their academic development, but also to find solutions to the challenges faced by their communities, such as food production and housing conditions.
By applying such knowledge, Aleixo emphasized, students could contribute to the progress of the province and the country.
In addition, the rector highlighted the importance of preserving the computers, so that they can continue to be used even after higher education.
In interviews, some beneficiaries expressed surprise, having given up hope of ever seeing the computers. However, they were satisfied and promised to make good use of the computers, with the aim of contributing to the development of their communities.
UniLicungo has now opened the second phase of the program so that more students can apply. Among the requirements are that students must be enrolled at the university and under 28 years of age.
