Africa-Press – Mozambique. Unidentified individuals still at large broke into a commercial establishment in Maputo city on Tuesday morning, stealing 75,000 meticais and clothes before setting fire to the place.

Tuesday morning saw firefighters of the National Public Safety Service (SENSAP) called to Avenida Guerra Popular in response to smoke in a shop in Bairro Central ‘C’, central Maputo.

Closer inspection revealed that the store had been broken into, its padlocks cut, and the glass of the windows broken.

Mohamed, one of the workers in the establishment, said he had received a call from his sister-in-law and ran to the scene, where he found firefighters already tackling the blaze.

“We left the store closed with everything locked, there was no problem. But this morning I got a phone call telling me that people had broken into the store, stolen things and then set it on fire,” he explained

Daude Yassine, owner and manager of the store, added that the miscreants had also stolen 75,000 meticais in cash from the store.

The police and agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) arrived at the scene to begin investigations into the crime.

Last month, two other stores in the same area were vandalized and looted, with the perpetrators yet to be found.
