Africa-Press – Mozambique. The political commission of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo, the party in power) has asked the government to move forward with institutional and administrative reforms in the state, including the rationalisation of resources.
The position was taken in a statement released today, during the 48th ordinary session of the political commission, which analysed the political, economic and socio-cultural situation of the country on Tuesday, with recommendations to the leadership of the head of state, Daniel Chapo, and the executive he leads.
The Frelimo political commission “also encourages the government to continue with the proposals for institutional and administrative reforms for the sustainable functioning of public institutions, in the search for improving management capacity and rationalising resources in the provision of quality public services”, the statement reads.
In the government action component, it “reiterates its encouragement to the Government to continue adopting sustainable measures that aim to ensure the effectiveness in the implementation of the government’s Five-Year Program [2025-2029]”.
It also welcomes, in this position, “the Government’s readiness” to “extend the exemption from Value Added Tax (VAT) for sugar, cooking oils and soaps, as well as raw materials and machinery used in the production of these goods”, “as part of the measures that aim to alleviate the cost of living for citizens and encourage national industry” and “by reducing toll prices”.
The Frelimo political commission further “notes that the gradual resumption of payment of toll services will help with road maintenance work and assistance to users, ensuring greater mobility and safety”, the party in power in Mozambique stresses.
The Frelimo political commission also “encourages” the government “to continue with initiatives, at the level of the most diverse sectors, with a view to establishing mechanisms that ensure the protection of consumer rights and compliance with quality standards of public services to satisfy the populations”.
Daniel Francisco Chapo was elected the fifth President of the Republic of Mozambique in the general elections of October 9 2024, took office on January 15, 2025, and in February also took over leadership of Frelimo, as President of the party and in this capacity Daniel Chapo chairs the Political Commission meetings.
