Africa-Press – Mozambique. Former Renamo guerrillas on Saturday continued to camp at the party’s national headquarters and say they will not participate in the conference of the Renamo Association of Combatants in the Struggle for Democracy (ACOLDE) proposed by Ossufo Momade’s leadership, because it is, they say, a body that does not exist.
A group has been camped at the national headquarters for over a week, singing and dancing as a way of pressuring Ossufo Momade to resign from the Renamo leadership, and say they will not leave the premises until Ossufo Momade meets them and leaves power.
“He has to resign, for us that is the only solution. He has been there for six years, even those who have not served 24 hours have already resigned. So he also has to resign,” said João Machava, spokesperson for the former guerrillas.
This Saturday, the former guerrillas reacted with indifference to the announcement of the national conference of ACOLDE, an organization of which the party’s fighters are members.
The group claims that it will not participate in the event because, according to its explanation, ACOLDE is a non-functioning organization with unknown leadership.
“There will be no conference. There will be no conference, because we are the ones who control the former fighters throughout Mozambique, so there will be no conference. The President of the Association has to come here to listen to us, because this Association is only on the list and has no members. Since its constitution, no conference has been held. Now, just because Renamo has problems, they resort to ACOLDE, it cannot be like that,” Machava explained.
Former Renamo guerrillas reiterate that they will only quit the party headquarters and let activities return to normal when their demands are met.
